PURPLE STATE ON THE GRIDDLE: THE BULLY! PULPIT SHOW INTERVIEWS A SKEPTIC

Last year, as the Purple State Roadshow was winding down, I drove to Irvine, California, bought myself a cheeseburger at In And Out and sat down for an interview with music producer and media personality Mark Joseph, a Christian with a podcast–and a vengeance. I mean that in a good way.

We spoke for an hour about the documentary, my book, god, politics and atheism, and I always wondered what happened to the show. Now I know. The interview has been posted here, and I thought I’d put it out there for the delectation and/or perturbation of Purple Staters everywhere. Joseph is more conservative in his beliefs and politics than my co-producer Craig Detweiler, and he asked tougher questions than I got in the doc, but the session was civilized and smart.

Let’s face it, though. What I’m really waiting for is the Mark Joseph interview with Craig Detweiler. I’d like to see him bully that pulpit.

What about it, Mark? Now that Craig is running a media program at Pepperdine, isn’t it time to have him down to Irvine for a chat? Sure it’s a long drive from Malibu to Irvine, but I made it in three hours from Ojai. Surely Professor Detweiler can manage the shorter distance. Come on. You know you want to interview him.

In the meantime, while we’re waiting for the real thing, here are four gentle segments in which a Christian poses the timeless question “Whassup, atheist playa?”
